The techniques of Yoga date back more than 5000 years. The word yoga means yoke or union as it unites the body, mind & spirit. Yoga is a preventative & therapeutic tool, and is a practice of health & wellness. Your individual experience with yoga will be unique to you and will develop over time. One of the amazing things about yoga is that your practice is always evolving and changing, so it never gets boring! Anyone can start a yoga practice. Not flexible? Not very strong? No problem. If you make the commitment, yoga can and will help! Lisa has been dedicated to the practice of yoga for the last two years after physical problems from stress started to emerge. Through focused practice and determination, Lisa was able to completely relieve her body of the ailments such as TMJ and arthritic knees and no longer needs medication for them. Because of this, Lisa has committed herself to passing along that knowledge to students who wish to detoxify their bodies of stress and physical pain. She teaches gentle yoga for strength, agility and relaxation. A graduate from the University of Central Florida, Lisa received a bachelor's degree in Radio and Television Communications. She has worked in local radio and television for over 15 years and has lived all of her life in the Orlando area. Lisa loves to travel and has spent time overseas in Europe and the Caribbean. She is also a published freelance writer who uses creativity to explore the imagination. Lisa uses this creativity in her yoga teaching style to combine Hatha and Raja style yoga for a complete mind/body experience. We welcome and ecourage you to join us every Tuesday evening at 6pm for our Gentle Yoga Class. Yoga mats are provided. All you need to do is commit and see how yoga can change your life! Drop in rate for a class is $15. Prepay for the month and class is only $12.
Many people think that yoga is just stretching. But, while stretching is certainly involved, yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits. The poses can be done quickly in succession, creating heat in the body through movement or more slowly to increase stamina and perfect the alignment of the pose. The poses are a constant, but the approach to them varies depending on the tradition in which the teacher has trained.
Yoga is noncompetitive in spirit encouraging you to listen to your body and honor it's wishes. Yoga will ask you to let go of the ego and accept that no one is better than anyone else. We are all doing the best that we can!
There are many different types of yoga. At Sacred Moments Massage & Healing Center, we practice a GENTLE style of yoga that is restorative and healing in nature. Perfect for those who have never tried yoga and/or suffer with chronic issues. We encourage gentle stretches. No pretzels here! We focus on the breath while clearing the mind.
